Purse Pillow Fit Guide: How Much Support Should a Handbag Have?

A purse pillow should provide gentle interior support, not pack a handbag to a calculated density. There is no universal fill percentage, pressure target, or firmness formula that is appropriate for every handbag.

Start with the bag's natural shape

Look at how the bag is intended to rest. Structured bags may need relatively little support, while softer bags may relax more when empty. A slouchy design does not need to be forced into a rigid silhouette.

Signs the pillow may be too large

If the exterior bows outward, corners are being forced, seams appear under unusual tension, or the closure becomes difficult, reassess the fit. A larger pillow is not automatically better.

Signs the pillow may be too small

If the pillow sits loosely in one area and does not provide the support you want, a different standard size or model-specific fit may be more appropriate.

Firmness is not a universal specification

Soft fiber fill can compress and conform to the interior. What matters is the finished interaction between the insert and the bag, not an unsupported claim that a specific stuffing density is scientifically ideal.

Check the fit periodically

Remove the pillow occasionally and inspect both items. Fiber fill can shift with handling, and handbags can also change with use and age. Fluff or redistribute the insert when needed.
