Purse Pillow Shell Materials: What to Look For
The shell of a purse pillow is the surface most likely to contact a handbag lining, so texture, cleanliness, seams, dyes, and overall condition matter. No fabric should be described as completely non-abrasive or incapable of color transfer under every possible condition.
Look for a smooth surface
Choose a shell that feels smooth and does not contain exposed rough hardware, sharp edges, damaged seams, or obvious abrasive elements.
Keep the shell clean and dry
Do not place a damp, oily, dirty, or strongly scented insert inside a handbag for storage. Remove the pillow if it becomes contaminated and follow its care instructions before reuse.
Consider color transfer
Colorfastness depends on the actual textile, dye, moisture, friction, and length of contact. Be especially cautious with strongly dyed materials against pale or delicate linings.
Seams matter too
Inspect stitching periodically. Stop using an insert if a seam opens, fill becomes exposed, or the shell develops damage that could create unwanted contact with the bag.
Material names are not performance guarantees
Terms such as sateen, cotton, polyester, microfiber, archival, or professional grade do not by themselves establish how a finished insert will perform inside every handbag. Evaluate the actual product and fit.
Fit remains essential
Even a very smooth shell can create unwanted pressure if the pillow is oversized. The exterior of the bag should not bow outward and the closure should not be forced.
Fabrinique Purse Pillows
Fabrinique Purse Pillows use a soft sewn fabric shell around lightweight fiber fill. They are designed to provide gentle interior support during storage. We do not claim that the shell can never abrade, transfer color, or wear under any condition.
